The Anunnaki were not aliens

Search the Anunnaki online and you will meet astronauts, spaceships, and a planet called Nibiru. None of that is in the tablets.

The real Anunnaki are the great gods of ancient Sumer, the divine assembly who set the fates of the world. Anunnaki means something close to "the offspring of An," the sky. They gather, they argue, they decide, and in the oldest flood story ever written they nearly wipe out humanity and then regret it. They are jealous, generous, and unmistakably ancient, the imagination of the first cities on Earth, thousands of years before anyone dreamed of aliens.

Our world takes the Anunnaki seriously as the Sumerians meant them, gods and powers, not visitors. The retelling is ours; the roots are real.
