She is the first of the ancestral hosts, and the one the story chooses deliberately over the famous names: an ordinary, frightened copyist, so that the first joining is intimate rather than grand. Her fear is real and her will is her own. A player can urge her; a player cannot drive her.

Nothing in the Sumerian record names her. She is invented, and the temple, the reed and the routine around her are not.
